5 Reasons to Vote NO On Measure G:

1. Working Families Can’t Afford A Massive Tax Hike

San Diego families are struggling with one of the highest cost-of-living burdens in the nation. Despite this, county politicians want to add to that by imposing an additional sales tax on residents – on top of California’s sky-high existing sales tax!

Studies show that sales taxes are regressive — meaning they hurt low-income families the most. Measure G imposes an extra 0.50% in sales tax on every purchase you make — for a total sales tax rate of 8-9% depending on which city you live in!

2. Won’t Fix the Roads

Measure G backers are LYING to voters when they claim the funds go to road projects. But not a single penny in Measure G is earmarked for general use roads!

Measure G contains loopholes that allow the money to go to transit projects, electric vehicle infrastructure, and salaries and benefits instead!

3. Backers Stole Our Money

Measure G backers are the same corrupt politicians and special interests that stole our existing road repair funds from previous tax hikes they imposed on you! In fact, in 1988 and 2004 were promised specific road projects in exchange for massive tax hikes – but many of those projects have been cancelled and the funds stolen by Measure G’s backers!

We pay high taxes and that is more than enough money to fix our roads! We need to use current tax revenue the way it was intended, rather than impose new taxes!

The true sinister anti-road intent of Measure G backers is clear when they state in their own measure: "This measure is focused on ... getting more cars off the road."

4. Wasteful Spending with No Oversight

Measure G will approve over $11.1 billion in new taxes and spending on wasteful transit projects that are unpopular with San Diegans! Less than 2% of San Diego-area commuters use transit, and ridership has been declining for the past 20 years!

What’s worse, recent SANDAG audits have uncovered millions in waste, fraud and abuse at the agency – including unjustified bonuses, salaries, termination packages, lavish travel, and hundreds of thousands in expensive dinners on agency credit cards.

5. Discriminates Against Minorities and Small Business

Measure G requires that revenue from the tax hike be diverted to a handful of powerful contractors who are bankrolling the campaign!

Numerous audits of SANDAG have uncovered millions in contracts being awarded to campaign contributors without proper competitive bidding! Measure G continues that corrupt practice and makes things worse by using discriminatory “Project Labor Agreements” that bar small businesses and minority-owned contractors from working on SANDAG projects!

“Join me in voting NO on Measure G! Measure G is a costly and unfair tax hike that hurts San Diego’s working families who already are struggling with a high cost of living.

Worse, the funds won’t fix our roads – but will instead line the pockets of special interests who are bankrolling this deceptive measure!”
